Review by Slig001 ★★★½
Miranda begins with a shot of Serena Grandi’s crotch, before proceeding to deliver the story of a busty free spirited tavern owner as she makes her way through the local men following the tragic disappearance of her husband during the war. I use the word story loosely, as there isn’t much of one here. What we do get is plenty of the stuff Brass went on to make his name with, and the film certainly works as a bright and breezy erotic comedy. Serena Grandi is superbly well cast in the lead and Tinto really makes best use of all her assets. The man certainly loved the female form. For all the leering over Grandi, the film’s sexual politics very…

Tinto Brass´ cheeky, lively, and lighthearted sex comedies are a guilty pleasure I like to indulge in. His heroines are confident, free-spirited, and always in charge of the situation which allows you to bask in their beauty and sensuality in a guilt-free way while you also get to laugh at all the silly men who are wrapped around the heroine´s finger. Furthermore, you can enjoy the idyllic Italian village setting and decently artistic filmmaking. “Miranda” has all that to offer and Serena Grandi with her charismatic charm doesn´t need to hide from other Brass lead actresses. It´s all harmless, sexy fun. Nevertheless, “Miranda” is a lesser Brass. The erotic scenes are more restrained and generic compared to some of his…

In my older review of this I said that I prefer this over La Chiave. Having rewatched Miranda now, I have to correct myself. In no fucking way is this one better. I would even go that far to say that Miranda is his weakest 80s movie. But it is still very much enjoyable if you like his movies. Serena Grandi is a great lead. The New York Ripper also plays a small role. It also features one of my favorite scenes out of Brass’ whole filmography. That is the picknick/dance/fight in the rainy forest. Pretty awesome.

Like other films by Tinto Brass you know what you’re in for. Erotic and artistic visions are combined, sometimes it works, other times it works but the erotic part does let film down a bit. There are scenes with opear music on the exterior that are marvelous. I swear, if Tinto Brass made a non-erotic film, it would have been an amazing film certainly.

I am shocked that modern cinephiles are so prudish when it comes to sex. I guess I shouldn’t be with chasteness of popular films these days. But those hbo shows that everyone loves contain sex, so I really don’t know? Reading some reviews of this was depressing and infuriating. One of them said think of how great a film Tinto Brass could make if it wasn’t erotic. So annoying! Tinto Brass’ films are great! Why is erotic cinema trash to people when it can be as well made and stylish as any other of their canonized bullshit!?
Ok on to the film…
Post war Italy, Miranda a widowed Inn owner is living life to fullest, dating around but not getting…

Serena Grandi is a total bae. Otherwise this is nothing special so the 3 star rating is rather generous lol.

Out of all the weeks for the 2022 Cult Movie Challenge, this is the one I’ve been dreading the most.
I mean maybe dread is a strong word all things considered.
Brass has a great command of color and lighting. There are moments when a motorcycle is driving down a tunnel and it looks great. Ice blue windows, lipstick-red dresses, pink sunsets, and white moons are all incorporated here, and they look great.
I feel like this is what people mean sometimes when they say “that’s one of those European films”. They aren’t talking about giallos, poliziotteschis, or Spaghetti Westerns. They aren’t talking about war movies or stuff that mimics American Blockbusters in more recent decades. This is a character-based…

Hard to dislike a film that opens on a shot of pubic hair.

Miranda is all about finding a new man to replace her dead husband but none of them are ever gonna live up. She juggles different men, laughs at body hair, dances randomly, and saves a dog. This movie is OK overall. Not much is memorable. But this is probably the only movie I’ve seen that has way more bottomless than topless nudity.
