What will ‘Cobra Kai’ season 6 be about?
Season 5 saw frenemies Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Daniel LaRusso (Macchio) working side by side in an effort to defeat Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) once and for all. (Thankfully, they succeeded!)
With the two men getting along better than ever, there’s plenty of room for a new villain. And Schlossberg has hinted that John Kreese (Martin Kove), another notorious villain in the Cobra Kai universe, could be making a return following his escape from prison.
«There’s the ultimate Cobra Kai snake out there that is really pissed off at everybody right now. We’ll see if life goes on easy in Season 6, or if Kreese has something to say. Something tells me that it’s going to be the latter,» Schlossberg said.
Who could be in the Cobra Kai season 6 cast?

We expect most of the Cobra Kai cast, if not all, to be retained for a sixth season. That would mean Ralph Macchio and William Zabka are back as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence respectively.
They would be joined by the karate kids: Xolo Mariduena, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, Jacob Bertrand, Peyton List, and Gianni DeCenzo. Devon actor Oona O’Brien could even be upgraded to series regular. In terms of the older cast, Courtney Henggeler and Vanessa Rubio will likely return, as will Alicia Hannah-Kim, who played Kim Da-Eun. Sean Kanan’s Mike Barnes and Chozen actor Yuji Okumoto are perhaps bigger question marks, however; their status is still up in the air depending on where the story goes next.
Kreese actor Martin Kove would factor in far more heavily in a potential Cobra Kai season 6 after his dramatic jail break in the season five finale. «The one person who is out there to potentially wreak havoc is Kreese, who makes his escape at the very end,» Jon Hurwitz told us. «There’s plenty of drama to be had.»
And what of Terry Silver actor Thomas Ian Griffith? «In terms of Terry Silver, this may be the end for him – or maybe not,» Hurwitz said. «You never know with a character of his means and determination. But we love Thomas Ian Griffith, it’s been amazing working with him the last couple of years. We’ll see if we get to work with him more.»
A fascinating new addition to the cast has also been unveiled. C.S. Lee is joining the line-up as Karate Kid character Master Kim Sun-Young, per Deadline. He taught both Kreese and Silver, and Kim Da-Eun, introduced in season 5, is his granddaughter.

Co-creator Hayden Schlossberg previously teased that things would get bigger and better for season 6.
«It’s always starting from a place of how do we take it to the next level while staying true to the original movie?» the co-creator told us. «I use the Rocky movies as comparison: there’s always some new angle, something that feels bigger, or going back to the roots of what it is.
«But you know what you’re gonna get: you’re gonna get awesome montages, Johnny being amazing, and the soap opera has some really big moments still to come.»
He also said on Twitter/X that Cobra Kai season 6 would last 10 episodes and the total runtime would be the longest yet (via ).
The creators told that they aren’t keen on covering old ground either. «We have a few more tricks up our sleeve for where we go from here, but it does get bigger every year,» they said. «And we’re trying at all times to make sure we’re not plagiarizing ourselves at this point.»
As Jon Hurwitz told us, the season 5 finale was «intended to have a different kind of feeling at the end there. We see how some people could see it as a little bit of a series finale kind of feeling, but Kreese has a famous line in one of the earlier seasons: ‘Peace is just a lull between battles.’»
He added, «We look forward to moving forward. Looks like everything’s ok in the Valley! Let’s see how it continues.»
In the open letter announcing the show’s cancellation, the creators told fans to «strap in for the BIGGEST SEASON OF COBRA KAI YET. And let today be a celebration of all that’s come, as well as all that’s still left to be told. We couldn’t do it without you.»

Cobra Kai has had three seasons released on Netflix in a comparatively short period of twenty months, beginning with season 3 in January 2021 and concluding with the fifth season in September 2022.
Although viewers are accustomed to seeing new Cobra Kai seasons on Netflix semi-regularly, the wait for a sixth season may be the longest.
While there is no official release date for Cobra Kai season 6, it is expected to be released between December 2023 and February 2024. Given the show’s popularity, it is likely that Netflix will try to remove the season as soon as possible.

t was announced in January 2023 via open letter from showrunners Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Scholssberg that Netflix had renewed the show for a sixth and final season.
«Our day one goal with Cobra Kai has always been to end it on our own terms, leaving the Valley in the time and place we’ve always imagined. So it is with immense pride and thankfulness that we are able to announce that achievement. The upcoming season six will mark the conclusion of Cobra Kai,» the trio .
«While this may be a bittersweet day for the fandom, the Miyagiverse has never been stronger,» the letter continues. «This fandom is the best on the planet and we hope to be telling more Karate Kid stories with you down the line. Because as we all know, Cobra Kai Never Dies.»
Cobra Kai season 5 ended with Cobra Kai seemingly being disbanded, Terry Silver being arrested for his various crimes, and Kreese escaping from prison. Miguel and Robby also buried the hatchet and Johnny is finally settling into his newfound role as a family man.
For now, it appears everything has wrapped up nicely. But there’s still the Sekai Takai tournament over the horizon. The «Super Bowl of karate» is something the creators have in mind when considering a new season.
«We don’t know all of the details of what that involves, other than it’s the biggest tournament yet in the series,» Schlossberg said. «We’ll see how that all plays out. We’ll just say we have lots of ideas for the future of where we’re going with these characters.»
A global karate tournament could be on the agenda, and the show has two remaining antagonists to lead the charge: Kreese and sensei Kim Da-Eun, who had a significant stake in Cobra Kai.
Could the pair lead a new team to Sekai Takai? It’s certainly something on the table, though don’t expect Kenny or Tory to join their ranks. The pair have left Cobra Kai behind, so new characters (and contenders) will have to emerge from the shadows to take on Miyagi-do’s prized students.
Then there’s also Johnny dealing with becoming a dad for the second time. A minor time skip – no House of the Dragon-style jumps here – may help speed up that plotline, while also intensifying one of our favorite fan theories: Terry Silver might be dying. If he is shuffling off this mortal karate coil, Silver must have one more trick up his gi to help the sensei sign off from the series in style. Watch this space.

Creators and showrunners Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg spoke to Collider about the challenges of keeping things fresh for the final season.
«We have a few more tricks up our sleeve for where we go from here, but it does get bigger every year,» Heald said. «And we’re trying at all times to make sure we’re not plagiarising ourselves at this point.
«You know, we’ve had tournament fights, we’ve had all-out riots. We’ve had fights on multiple platforms and places.
«We wanted to make sure … you want to feel every one-on-one, every two-on-one, every 10-on-10. It’s always conducting the orchestra and feeling, when do the cannons go off, and it’s full Tchaikovsky, fireworks, and when it’s an oboe solo.»
But we already know it’s not going to be the same old, same old on the show for its sixth outing. For starters, the rivalry between the two dojos isn’t there any more.
In the season five finale, Silver’s misdeeds finally caught up with him, and after being exposed for cheating at the All-Valley tournament, his cruel nature was revealed to his students, who all ditched him.
But they’re still figuring out what to do now. Do they join Miyagi-Do/Eagle Fang (or whatever they decide to call themselves?), or do they give up karate for good?
Kenny, who had gone from a sweet-natured nerd to a cold-hearted bully under Silver’s teachings, will likely feel this the most.
Speaking about his heartbreak at being let down by Silver, actor Dallas Dupree Young told Digital Spy: «Kenny’s heartbroken. I mean, it was a gut-wrenching moment, honestly, because his father figure is his leader, the guy that he looked up to, his mentor, kind of betrayed him in a sense.
«And for Kenny to watch that video and see the evidence, it was just very disheartening. So I think Kenny is in a rough headspace. He doesn’t really know where he wants to go at this point. But I can’t wait to see what happens with him.»

Elsewhere, we’re keeping all our fingers crossed for our new fav Chozen, after he drunk-dialled Kumiko back in Okinawa to reveal his true feelings for her (we’ve all been there, bud). Now recovering from what appeared to be near-lethal injuries, this guy deserves the biggest hug and the biggest break.
There are two major hanging threads this season: Kreese and his plans for revenge after breaking out of prison and going on the run, and the Sekai Taikai international championships.
Johnny and Daniel both screwed over Kreese while in prison by lying about getting him a lawyer, which likely won’t sit pretty with him. But he’s most likely wanting his own revenge on Silver (which, ironically, he could have done if he’d just waited another couple of days). But he also clearly feels guilt over Tory and dragging her into his scheme, only to drop her when he felt like he was losing.
But the Sekai Taikai is one of the most prestigious karate championships in the world. If the group can stick together long enough, they can share their teachings (and Mr Miyagi’s knowledge) with the world.

«I know that the creators want a great resolution like any good story,» Gianni Decenzo, who plays Demetri, told Digital Spy. «They don’t want to leave the fans hanging.
«There’s a lot still to solve — you’ve got Miyagi-Do, Eagle Fang… They’re kind of working together but there’s still two separate groups and then of course prison seems to not be adequate enough to keep Kreese away!»
But, yes, the central plot element of season six will be the show’s final global tournament. Who will stand (or limp) victorious at Sekai Taikai? «We now know that this is the biggest tournament in the world,» Schlossberg told .
«And Daniel and Gianni and Chozen, you know, have an entry point in there and Cobra Kai also does, but we don’t know what’s happening with Cobra Kai right now. And yeah, we just love the idea of constantly raising the bar and the levels. So they need a bigger challenge, and they will get one. But how that all plays out? We’ll see.»

Cobra Kai season 6 cast: Who will be back for Cobra Kai season 6?
Cobra Kai just wouldn’t be right without our two leads – William Zabka (Johnny Lawrence) and Ralph Macchio (Daniel LaRusso).
And they would be nothing without the women in their lives – Amanda (Courtney Henggeler) and the now-pregnant Carmen (played by Vanessa Rubio).
Add to this fellow Karate Kid returnees Yuji Okumoto (Chozen) and Martin Kove (John Kreese). We may not have seen the last of Thomas Ian Griffith (Terry Silver) either, considering he doesn’t go down without a fight, and now has nothing to lose.
Speaking of Karate Kid returnees, Hilary Swank, who played Julie Pierce in The Next Karate Kid, could potentially make a cameo in the last instalment as well. Now that would be kickass.
Then there’s the kids: primarily Xolo Maridueña (Miguel), Tanner Buchanan (Robby), Peyton List (Tory), Mary Mouser (Sam), Jacob Bertrand (Eli/Hawk) and Gianni DeCenzo (Demetri).
Now rudderless without their sensei behind their backs, there are also questions hanging over the head of several prominent Cobra Kai members – most notably Dallas Dupree Young (Kenny) and powerful newcomer Oona O’Brien (Devon).

There’s also the gang of Cobra Kai senseis who have their own grudge to settle. Sensei Kim Da-eun (played by Alicia Hannah-Kim) in particular is on a mission to fulfil a promise to her father to win the Sekai Taikai tournament, and probably won’t be too happy that Silver’s behaviour has caused a major setback.
Speaking about what could potentially be next for her character in season six, the actress told Deadline: «Hopefully, we will continue what we’ve started in season five on Cobra Kai… I think they’ve opened a pandora’s box with Kim Da-Eun and Master Kim Sun-Young.
«It really brought a darker element to this season and I’m curious what could happen now that Cobra Kai is ostensibly defeated. I do know Kim is hellbent on global domination for her family’s legacy, so there’s a lot yet to explore.»
Meanwhile, Bertrand previously said that he would love to see a world tournament in the final season, which would introduce some new characters and locations.
Speaking to PopCulture, he shared: «I really want to go to the world tournament. I think the world tournament would be super interesting because right now, it’s just confined to The Valley of Karate, you know?
«I think it’d be really cool to introduce some crazy new players from all around the world. Yeah, and I’m sure Hawk can win at least a couple of fights.» Now that would be epic.
The rest is a mystery. When we hear more, you’ll know more.

Cobra Kai Season 6 Plot
There are going to be major Cobra Kai Season 5 finale spoilers. As Tory departed Cobra Kai, the Miyagi-Do team began planning their Terry Silver killing.
As they break into the Cobra Kai offices to retrieve the footage they believed would prove Silver was responsible for the incident with Kreese, they find that Silver had destroyed it.
The team wasn’t in trouble because Tory recorded her former sensei confessing to buying off the referee for the All-Valley Tournament.
A furious debate ensues when the Cobra Kai members catch them in the act, but they can broadcast the video, which appears to be the villain’s ultimate downfall.
But first, he fights with Johnny, Chozen, and Mike, his karate instructors.
Daniel shows up to challenge his former sensei to a match, which he eventually wins, just when it seems as though there is no hope left for the decent people.
Cobra Kai season 6 release date speculation

Prior filming start times can clue us in to a rough window for the Cobra Kai season 6 release date. Both the fourth and fifth season aired 11-12 months after filming began. Xolo Mariduena told that filming is «just around the corner» and that the first episode was already filmed. A 2024 timeframe wouldn’t be out of the question, especially as indicates cameras will begin rolling early next year. Hayden Schlossberg also said on Twitter that a 2024 release date remains the goal for Cobra Kai season 6.
But the one-two punch in close proximity of the fourth season in December 2021 and fifth season in September 2022 won’t be repeated. The pair of seasons were essentially filmed back to back and, as Jon Hurwitz told us «nothing» has been filmed at the time of season 5’s release. That’s despite the conversation surrounding a Ralph Macchio interview with spiralling out into suggestion that some season six scenes had already been filmed. Expect a late 2024 window for those awaiting the end of the Cobra Kai saga.
Cobra Kai season 6 plot and season 5 ending, explained
The Cobra Kai season 5 finale features an epic showdown divided into two parts. Johnny, Chozen and Mike take on Terry Silver and his sensei thugs at Silver’s house, while the Miyagi-do/Eagle Fang students break into Cobra Kai to swipe footage that will reveal Silver’s evil doings to the world.
While Silver manages to slice Chozen across the back, Johnny is able to subdue the thugs — with an assist from Mike.
Meanwhile, Daniel races to the Cobra Kai dojo, where his students (including daughter Sam and son Anthony) are brawling with their foes. The Miyagi-do kids are able to upload video of Silver bribing a referee to give Tory the win over Sam in the All Valley tournament.
Silver arrives on scene and challenges Daniel to a karate duel. Fortunately, Daniel prevails. The Cobra Kai students, disgusted with Silver, toss their uniforms. Johnny and Chozen show up, reuniting with their friends and loved ones. Sam and Miguel kiss and makeup, as do Robby and Tory.
Behind bars, John Kreese appears dead after being stabbed by a fellow inmate. It turns out to be a ruse and the blood is merely melted red Jello. Kreese knocks out the guards, takes a doctor’s coat and uses a stolen pass to waltz out of prison. Cobra Kai truly never dies.

In season 6, Kreese may seek revenge on Johnny and Daniel for tricking him into helping them fight Silver. He likely will want to regain control over Cobra Kai. The dojo received entry in to the Sekai Taikai tournament, as did Miyagi-do/Eagle Fang. It’s unclear if Silver’s legal troubles will bar Cobra Kai from competing, but Kreese could find a way to lead them instead.
Then again, many of Cobra Kai’s students have left the dojo and may join Miyagi-do/Eagle Fang (which needs to decide on a name).
Cobra Kai season 6 may shuffle the students around, while following their training to compete in the Sekai Taikai.
Cobra Kai Season 6 Cast
The Cobra Kai Season 5 Cast claims that Tory Nichols (Peyton List), who is outraged because John Kreese (Martin Kove) is in jail due to false accusations that he attempted to kill someone, is aware that Silver cheated to carry out her plan.
Netflix has not yet announced that Cobra Kai Season 6 will air. Even though season 5 was already in pre-production because seasons 4 and 5 were shot in 2021, Netflix renewed Cobra Kai for season 5 in August 2021, months before season 4 in December 2021.
According to rumors, the Cobra Kai Season 5 Cast will remain the same as in Season 6. The Netflix release date for Cobra Kai Season 6 will be updated soon.

When could Cobra Kai season 6 release?
Netflix has a reputation for cancelling shows, so that you might feel slightly anxious about the lack of information about Cobra Kai’s next instalment. However, the series hasn’t been cancelled; it has been renewed! Season 6 is on the way, but it will be the final chapter – it’s time to say goodbye to Johnny, Daniel, Miguel, Sam, Robbie and the rest of the crew (friends and foes alike).
In the open letter published in January 2023, the creators of the show – Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg – summarised the years of creating Cobra Kai and announced the saga’s grand finale, as well as potential spin-offs:
When can we expect the release of Cobra Kai season 6, then? It’s hard to say, as the situation in Hollywood has become quite complicated in recent months. On 2 May, screenwriters represented by the Writers Guild of America went on strike. On 13 July, a strike was also announced by the Screen Actors Guild.
The team working on Cobra Kai also joined the picket line, and production of the show has been halted. As the showrunner of the series, Jon Hurwitz wrote on social media:
Nobody knows how long the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike will last. Originally, the premiere of Cobra Kai season 6 was expected to be in early 2024 based on previous seasons. However, now it is almost certainly delayed.
We should learn more in the coming months.
